Thanksgiving began as an act of radical hospitality. Strangers sitting down together, sharing what they had, making room at the table. Somewhere along the way it became about turkey and football — both perfectly fine things — but we’d like to take it back to its roots for an evening.

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Il Palazzo opens its doors for a celebration of gratitude, abundance, and the kind of community that makes a place feel like home. This is The Gratitude Spot’s namesake holiday — and we intend to celebrate it properly.

Drop in any time between 5 – 9pm. Stay as long as you like. This is an open house — there is no wrong moment to arrive, and no one is watching the clock.

This is a potluck. Bring a dish. Bring yourself. Bring someone who needs a table to sit at.

One gentle note: this is an entirely vegetarian celebration. No turkeys will be harmed in the making of this Thanksgiving — which, if you think about it, the turkeys would consider a significant improvement on tradition. Americans, we trust you can rise to the occasion. Everyone else: bring whatever vegetarian dish feels like home to you. A recipe your grandmother made. Something from your corner of the world. Whatever you’d want to share with people you’re glad to know.

And if the idea of cooking something veggie fills you with quiet panic — absolutely no judgement. Bring a bottle of whatever you like to drink and consider your contribution made.

Because that’s what this evening is really about. Not a specific cuisine or a specific tradition, but the thing underneath all of them — the impulse to gather, to share, to look around a 17th-century palazzo in the hills of Sabina and feel genuinely, ridiculously lucky.

Come hungry. Come grateful. Come as you are.
